All is set for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations that are set to kick off on Monday next week with rehearsals set for Thursday, October 19, the Kenya National Examinations Council has announced.

In a statement to newsrooms, the council said that Form 4 candidates will sit for their national exams from October 23 to November 24 while the rehearsal date for KCPE and KPSEA is set for Friday, October 27.

At least 1,700 officers drawn from an array of organizations will monitor the national exams.

The council said the officers are not only from Knec but also from other institutions within the education sector.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, during a briefing for invigilators, urged them to be professional in the discharge of their duties.

“We have a bigger role to play than just conducting the examinations, we also have to motivate the candidates that this is a process that we have all gone through and they can also do it successfully,” he said.

This year’s exams will be the last under the 8-4-4 system as the country moves to the new module under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Over 3.5 million candidates will sit national examinations with KCPE candidates covering the most soaring number ever recorded in the country.

Just under a million will sit KCSE exams this year while 1.4 million will sit KCPE exams. Those registered to sit the inaugural KPSEA are 1.2 million.

The PS congratulated Knec for the good work especially last year when the Council transitioned from administering the annual two examinations to the unprecedented five last years as the country stabilised the school calendar after the Covid-19 disruption.
