Peter Otieno, the former principal of Baringo National School, has been transferred to Maseno School in Kisumu.

He takes over for Andrew Buop, who is away on a diplomatic mission.

Buop, who has been promoted to deputy director, will spend four years as an education attaché in the United States.

He was the principal of Homa Bay High School before taking over for the long-serving Maseno School principal Paul Otula in 2017.

Otieno, a Mangu School alumnus, officially took over on Tuesday during a handing over ceremony.

He stated that it is his responsibility to work closely with all stakeholders to improve the education standards of the country’s schools.

“I am very happy to be here and it is all about the well-being being and education of the students. It requires a collective responsibility from parents, teachers, students and leaders for us to succeed.”

The chief principal stated that his priority will be to provide the best education possible to students while also developing future leaders as needed.

Secondary school principals have praised the government for appointing one of their students to the diplomatic mission.

They said Buop’s promotion was a great honor to the teaching fraternity, led by chairman Caspal Maina.

Maina, who is also the chief principal of Nairobi School, believes that more educators should be appointed to high-level government positions.

Buop, according to Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, is one of the education managers who has dedicated a significant amount of time and energy to the advancement of education in the country.

According to Magoha, several chief principals have been appointed to positions in government or the diplomatic corps.

“We are still looking around if we can still find more to appoint even though education officers will quarrel me. We will not hesitate to promote deserving people, “he said.

Buop thanked the members of the forum for their unwavering support throughout his time with them saying he will be in the United States for four years.

Buop joined Maseno School in 2017 after former principal Paul Otula was placed on administrative leave for gross negligence following reports of junior students being molested.
