Ministry of Education Announces New Closing Dates

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has modified the closing date for Term 3 in Primary and Secondary schools across the nation. According to sources, Pre-primary, Primary, and Secondary schools will now commence their holiday break on October 25, as opposed to the previously announced date of October 19 by the by some blog sites.

 

 

This term, being the shortest and crucial due to upcoming national examinations, does not include a mid-term break. Learners who will not be taking the national exams will remain at home until January 8, 2024.

 

Grade Six and Standard Eight candidates will undergo their KPSEA and KCPE exams, respectively, from October 30 to November 2, 2023. The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will start on November 3 and continue until November 24, 2023.

 

 

This term signifies the last cohort of KCPE students under the 8-4-4 system, which has been replaced by the 2-6-3-3-3 Competency-Based Curriculum. Data from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) indicates that approximately 2.3 million candidates are expected to take the KCPE and KCSE examinations this year. Specifically, 1,415,315 candidates will participate in the KCPE exams, and an additional 903,260 students will undertake the KCSE exams.

 

 

KNEC CEO David Njengere has confirmed that preparations for the candidates, including 1,282,574 Grade Six learners taking the KPSEA, are complete. A total of 1,143 containers will be used for the 2023 KCSE, KCPE, and KPSEA exams. Among them, 576 distribution centers or containers will house KPSEA and KCPE examinations, while 567 containers will be designated for the distribution of KCSE papers.

 

 

 

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has vetted a total of 223,223 teachers to serve as supervisors and invigilators for the 2023 national exams. Additionally, 37,731 teachers have been vetted to act as examiners for this year’s national examinations.

 

The marking process will commence on November 27 and continue until December 15, 2023.
