The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) on Sunday notified the public and employers that payments for services henceforth will only be made through government paybill number 222222.

In a statement signed by Chief Executive  Elijah Wachira, the agency informed users that the changes would take effect immediately.

“This is in line with the Kenya Gazette No. 16008 of 2022 and the Presidential Directive designating the use of paybill Number 222222 as the Government’s single payment platform,” the statement read in part.

Members making monthly contributions are advised to use NHIFM-ID NUMBER as their account number.

NHIF members making penalty payments were told to substitute the NHIFM with NHIFP and then add their ID number.

Employers contributing for their employees will henceforth use NHIFE-ESlip NUMBER as the account number for monthly contributions and NHIFEP-EMPLOYER CODE for employer penalty.

“To access NHIF services, please visit www.selfcare-ecitizen.nhif.or.ke/ or www.nhif.or.ke or the NHIF Mobile App, available on the App Store or Play Store,” Wachira explained.

President William Ruto in June stated that all government agencies would use one payment channel to ensure efficiency.

Additionally, he stated that a single paybill would reduce corruption in government offices as it would limit physical interactions.

Following President William Ruto’s directive, over 1488 paybills operated by different government agencies were closed.

On November 8, the Office of the President summoned CEOs of 17 State Agencies which had declined to comply with the president’s directive.

Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau stated at the time that several agencies were deliberately retaining separate bank accounts and advertising unofficial payment channels.
