The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in the month of April this year announced a total of 418,192 short-term job opportunities ahead of the August 9 General Election.

The commission IEBC was looking forward to recruit deputy county returning officers (47), deputy constituency returning officers (290), presiding officers (52,481), deputy presiding officers (52,841), logistics officers (389) and support electoral trainers (5,827).

The elections authority was intending to enlist 580 ICT clerks, 302,860 polling clerks, 47 county based voter educators, 290 constituency based voter educators and 2,900 ward-based voter educators.

All interested parties were expected to apply for the positions on IEBC’s online portal, where requirements for the slots will be available, before May 6, 2022.

Based on this therefore, the commission has since started the interviewing process of the officers to help take part in the August Elections.

From a spot check across the country, a number of counties and Sub-Counties have so far invited applicants to turn up for scheduled interviews.

From text messages sampled from some applicants which read,

Good afternoon.
Following your application for the DPO Position in Uriri Constituency, you’re hereby invited to attend an interview on the 20th June 2022 at the IEBC OFFICE within the Uriri DCC’s Compound at 8.00am.
Carry your original and copies of National ID/Kenyan Passport, Academic certificates and testimonials and this message.”

The commission is therefore seemingly set with the necessary procedures to see to it that the August election which is now about 50 days away, becomes a success.

Worth noting is that the commission announced for the positions online on the website and that application was submitted online by interested parties online. No hardcopy job applications were accepted at the IEBC offices across the country.

Accordingly to the commission’s programs rolled out at county and Sub-County levels, from the Presiding officers and Deputy presiding officers interviews, IEBC will then move to interview clerks amongst other officers before embarking on the rigorous training on dates that the commission will communicate.

All the best to the applicants during the interviews.
