Nairobi Man in Court for Stoning Police Station: “An Officer Had Insulted My Wife”
Justine Onami Osinde pleaded with the court to defer charges against him to enable him to seek justice for his pregnant wife Osinde told the court he only pelted the police station with stones because the officer insulted and harassed his wife.
He said he has five children who are schooling at National schools and his detention will jeopardise the rights of his children:
A man has been charged with pelting Ngara police station with stones and damaging 17 windows after an officer at the station allegedly insulted his pregnant wife.
Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Principal Magistrate Wandia Nyamu, the accused Justine Onami Osinde pleaded with the court to defer charges against him to enable him to seek justice for his pregnant wife.
During the court proceeding on Tuesday, July 5, the suspect claimed he resorted to throwing stones at the police station after the officer called his wife a woman of the night.
“Your honour , before I take plea I pray this court to refer me to a constitutional court to seek justice, my rights were violet by the police,I want to know if it’s correct for a police officer whom I know to call my pregnant wife a prostitute” he lamented.
He narrated to the court how the police officer walked out of the bar while he and his wife were looking for a place to sleep since their house had been locked due to lack of rent.
He said the officer started to attack the woman while insulting and harassing her.
“The officer walked out of the bar and called my wife prostitute while removing her clothes, that is when I jumped to protect her,” he told the court.
He also told the court that other police officers who were on duty ganged up against him and handcuffed him, and took him to Ngara police station when the incident happened.
He said he has five children who are schooling at National schools and his detention will jeopardise the rights of his children.
According to the charge sheet, which was read out in court, Justine committed the offence on July 4, 2022, at around 1.30am, whereby he is alleged to have destroyed seventeen pieces of the window on the precincts of Ngara police station.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of KSh 20,000.
