The principal secretary for university education, Prof Simon Nabukwesi, and the chief executive officer for HELB Charles Ringera have presented a petition in parliament to consider increasing the funding for students to a maximum of ksh.200,000 Per year.

If this proposal by the Moe and the statutory body is approved, university students could soon be receiving more than 5 times the amount of money they are receiving at the moment.

At the moment, Students receive an average of ksh. 37000 per year. This money , according to the CEO and PS argue that it is too little to pay for school fees as well as maintaining themselves in the light of rising economic demands.

Nakubwesi further made a claim that the board is underfunded thus unable to adequately fund the students. He also added that students missed this year’s loans due to lack of funding saying that HElB is awarding students an average of sh. 37000 which is insufficient.
