In heated efforts to weed out the ghost teachers from the payroll of the commission, teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to initiate the process of mass registration of all teachers across the country.
During a media engagement forum on Saturday, November 27, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia revealed the pilot program for biometric registration, which started earlier this year.
The teacher’s Boss said the programme, which was carried out in 143 institutions in seven selected counties and was successful.
She further said the commission is set to start the exercise in 47 counties Fully in March of next year 2022.
The process will be about getting the actual data of the teachers, including the academic details of the tutors, their family life, so we want to get the complete bio-data of the teachers.”
Reports according to Macharia indicate that more than 300,000 teachers will have to provide their biometric data to establish the actual number of tutors in the country.
She added that noting that this would be achieved by tapping into the technology.
Apart from using fingerprints to get the details, each teacher shall produce his/her National Identity Card or Birth Certificate and any other relevant identity document such as employment or designation letter.
This data will also be captured for teachers in special programs as well as course support officers in all areas.
The above exercise will also reveal teacher distribution based on subject composition and identify staffing gaps that will inform training needs for different subject areas.
Additionally,the TSC boss addressed the issue of shortage of teachers in the country, noting that the western region was mostly affected by the shortage.
Dr. Macharia also said the commission would address this to ensure service delivery across the country.
This pilot program targeted seven counties including Usin Gishu, Homa Bay, Bungoma, Nyeri, Kilifi, Kitui and Garissa.
These counties were selected because they presented both rural and urban setups.
