The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has red-flagged 14 flour millers for allegedly producing substandard flour.
KEBS has ordered for the recall of the flour being distributed countrywide and further removal of the brands from market shelves, warning that it is unfit for human consumption.
The standards body has petitioned all retailers to remove the affected brands from their shelves.
In a Sunday statement, KEBS said those to be recalled are Ndovu Maize Flour, Prestige Sifted Maize, Range Corn, Sima Tamu, Top White, Winnies Ugali Afya, Bel’s Organic, Diamond Sifted Maize, Family, Jasiri Satiated Maize, Jema Sifted Maize, Jibe Maize Flour, Jodari, and Mugambo Sifted Maize Meal.
KEBS further warned the millers to demonstrate compliance with the other batches it is yet to test before they are put on sale.
It further stated that the directive was not a total ban on these products but rather a temporary measure to give room for the necessary corrective action to be undertaken by the concerned manufacturers towards eliminating any anomalies in their production processes.
