Grade E Students: Thousands of students who only managed to get the poorest grade of E in their KCSE exam will now be able to join colleges. The students, whose poor grade was an end to their dreams, will be able to join colleges where they can pursue artisan courses. They will join the colleges through placement by the Kenya Colleges and Universities Placement Service (KUCCPS).

According to a report that appeared in a local daily, those who upgrade their skills will now be able to study up to a doctorate level through  framework that will be developed by KUCCPS, despite having scored the low grade of ‘E’.

“Previously students who scored C and below were considered as failures but there is no failure. For those we have placed, the minimum was a C- (minus) for Diploma and D+ (Plus) for certificate courses. We hope we can take artisan courses as you develop your programs so that even those who get an E can have an opportunity to study,” said KUCCPS chief executive officer Dr Agnes Wahome.

Every examination year, thousands of students take home the poorest grade of E. In the 2020 KCSE, up to 28,046 candidates scored a mean grade of E. 15,225 of these were boys while girls were 12,821. 141 of these students were from national schools.
