Industrial Action Results Into Indefinite Closure Of Moi University – Eldoret

Moi University ,Main  Campus has  been closed indefinitely after the University’s senate special meeting held on Wednesday 27th October 2021.
According to a memo addressing the students community from Prof Kimengi ;Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, research and Extension ,the decision was arrived at after the lecturers and University staff staged a demonstration over delayed salary payment.
“The senate resolved to suspend teaching and learning activities in Main Campus indefinitely due to the industrial action by University staff which has affected University operations ” reads part of the Memo.
The students were required to vacate the hostels and university premises immediately.
“Students at the main campus are directed to vacate the hostels and leave University premises by 12:00 Noon on Thursday 28th October 2021” The memo reads.
 
On Monday 25th the lecturers took to the streets to lament on the 3 months delayed salary payment. The school’s farm workers also regretted missing salary for a cumulative period of 13 months.
 
“We are here because we want to get justice.As it is the donkey is tired. Enough is enough ” one unionist said.
The University tutors  demanded the University vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgeys audience, saying that he ought to explain why their salaries delayed.
 
The University has however assured the students that normal teaching and learning will be restored within a short period.
“We wish to assure you of our commitment to restoring normalcy in University operations as soon as possible to enable you complete your studies in a timely fashion ” said Prof Kimengi.
